When cats are boarding for the first time, they may exhibit a range of normal symptoms as they adjust to their new environment. These can include:

  1. Hiding

    Cats often look for a quiet, safe spot to hide when they’re in a new space. It’s a natural way for them to cope with change, and we make sure they have cozy spots to feel secure.

  2. Increased Vocalization

    Some cats may meow more than usual as a way of expressing stress or trying to communicate their feelings.

  3. Changes in Appetite

    Some cats may eat less or skip meals in the first day or two. This is a normal reaction to a new environment, and we keep a close eye on food intake.

  4. Litter Box Behavior

    Stress can affect bathroom behavior. Some cats may use the litter box more or less than usual, or occasionally miss it as they adjust.

  5. Pacing or Restlessness

    Cats might walk around more in the beginning, exploring or trying to understand their new surroundings. This usually decreases as they settle in.

  6. Excessive Grooming

    Some cats groom themselves more to self-soothe, while others may skip grooming when feeling uncertain. Both are common stress responses.

  7. Behavioral Changes

    Cats might become more withdrawn or exhibit changes in their usual behavior, such as being less playful or more irritable.

  8. Sleeping More or Less

    Some cats sleep more when adjusting, while others stay more alert. Once they feel safe, their sleep routine usually normalizes.

  9. Quiet or Withdrawn Behavior

    Your usually social kitty might be more reserved or prefer solitude until they feel more at ease. That’s totally normal.
